Project Name: Establishment of a 50-Seat Medical College and Nursing Institute and up-gradation and modernization of Existing Railway Hospital into 250 beds at Kamalapur in Dhaka
Sector: Health
Location: Dhaka
Area: Kamalapur in Dhaka (4.30 acres )
Background:

The Kamlapur railway hospital was established in 1986. It is situated between the Kamalapur station and Shahjahanpur junction. It is adjacent to the Motijheel Ideal School and College. The total area of the hospital covers 4.30 acres of land. There are also several trees in the hospital premises.

Bangladesh Railway has decided to expand its social services in some other areas by utilizing its core asset including hues land base and other infrastructure. For the medical care of the BR’s employees, it has some hospitals at different places. Kamlapur Railway Hospital is one of them.

Bangladesh Railway has decided to upgrade and modernize the existing hospital at Kamlapur to a 250 bed hospital and establish a 50 seat medical college and nursing institute in the unused land near the Kamlapur station within the existing hospital complex on a PPP model. The project would enable Bangladesh Railway to enter into a partnership with a private sector partner who would be involved in upgrading and enhancing the health service facilities, while delivering better quality health services at affordable rates to BR employees, while earning commercial return from offering services to the general people.

The proposed project has been provided in-principal approval by the Cabinet Committee for Economic Affairs (CCEA) on 14 August 2013. The proposed hospital is expected to cater the health service requirements for both the BR’s employees as well as general people and will cater the need for quality medical education in the country.

Redevelopment of existing hospital facilities and development of a new medical college and nursing institute

Objective:

• To provide medical services to common people as well as Bangladesh Railway’s employees.
